Panda 4.0 Launched and Google Unnatural Links Warning Drama 1

Last week seems to be really bad for Webmaster as Google webmaster tool unnatural link warning gave sleepless night to many Webmaster. Though, before we talk about it, another big news is related to Panda 4.0. It’s 21st of the month and like all other months, Google has released an update to their algo and as we following our algo change nomenclature, Panda 4.0 hit the globe.

Google Panda 4.0 and work around:

Matt Cutts announced the roll out of Panda 4.0 today on Twitter (21st May 2014) and many web masters are sharing about their blog traffic change on Twitter and Facebook.  This is a major Panda update in recent time and according to SEL, Panda 4 will impact all languages to different degrees.

Here is an official tweet from Google about this latest algo update:

As I explained earlier in my Panda recovery guide, Panda penalizes you mostly due to thin and low quality content and if you have not taken any steps till now to fix issues on your site, you will continue seeing traffic drop or your traffic will remain static for long. You should start with removing low quality content and especially if copied content is outranking your original content, here is a video where I have explained how you can remove such pages from Google.

Google Webmaster tool Unnatural links warning:

Another big news from SEO perspective is Unnatural link warning Email sent by Google to webmasters which turned out to be a false alarm. Here is one such Email received by one of my client:

Dear site owner or webmaster of

We’ve detected that some of your site’s pages may be using techniques that are outside Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes. We encourage you to make changes to your site so that it meets our quality guidelines. Once you’ve made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google’s search results. If you find unnatural links to your site that you are unable to control or remove, please provide the details in your reconsideration request. If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.

Later on Matt Cutts talked about thison his Google plus profile and asked webmaster to ignore the Email:

To rectify this issue, next day Webmaster tool sent another Email to webmasters saying :

We’ve detected that some of the links pointing to your site are using techniques outside Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.
We don’t want to put any trust in links that are artificial or unnatural. We recommend removing any unnatural links to your site. However, we do realize that some links are outside of your control. As a result, for this specific incident we are taking very targeted action on the unnatural links instead of your site as a whole. If you are able to remove any of the links, please submit a reconsideration request, including the actions that you took. If you have any questions, please visit our Webmaster Help Forum.

After getting first Email, my client contacted me and talking about this issue and after analyzing his backlink profile and anchor text, everything looks normal and it’s hard to identify potentially 1-2 spam inbound links. Google is also reported working on disavow link, which will let you report unnatural links but it will take time. Bing has launched such tool some time back, but I wonder if anyone will use it.

It’s good to know that Google is trying to be very transparent with things, but honestly with so many changes and stuff Google is making SEO/link building stuff more prominent and the axe will hang on natural bloggers who just blog for passion. Anyhow, somehow we can’t ignore Google guidelines and importance of SEO for now, but with quality content you can easily ignore SEO and other ranking factors. I suggest you to read about Penguin penalty and over optimzation penalty to understand why we need Disavow link badly now.
